The Original Pilates Advanced Mat Repertoire
With emphasis now on the experienced Pilates student, Darien Gold presents The Original Pilates Advanced Mat Repertoire, the third part of Studio Darien Pilates. It offers an even greater range of exercises designed to further increase overall strength and balance.
These advanced mat exercises, although taught and practiced on the apparatus, were actually originated on the mat by Mr. Pilates. He considered the Mat to be the most challenging apparatus because the body must use its own resistance to master each move.
To prepare for the Advanced Mat, students are encouraged to practice The Original Pilates Intermediate Mat Repertoire, the second DVD in the Studio Darien Pilates series, and the basic, introductory Mat Repertoire, The First Seven, for its insights and thorough fundamentals of the Pilates technique.

The Original Pilates Intermediate Mat Repertoire
Second generation Pilates instructor Darien Gold demonstrates the Original Pilates Intermediate Mat Repertoire developed by Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates’ principle disciple. Darien began her studies of the Pilates method with Romana in 1994 and continues their Pilates legacy by teaching her clients this brilliant system of stretch, strength and control.
Two approaches of the Intermediate Mat are included here in this DVD. In one, you will see the full mat in a non-stop workout that includes all transitions. The second approach showcases the same 23 exercises and presents them individually so you can work at your own pace. Darien guides you with both audio and text cues including the correct number of repetitions.
If you are new to the Intermediate Mat or are not familiar with the non-stop version, Darien recommends that you begin with the individual exercises, to give you the knowledge and confidence to tackle the non-stop mat workout.

The First Seven
The Original Pilates Basic Mat Repertoire
Although there are other basic exercises, Darien believes she can most effectively impart the fundamentals of the Pilates technique by beginning with The First Seven.
In this DVD, four of Darien’s clients demonstrate variations of The First Seven – Hundred, Roll up, Leg circles, Rolling like a ball, Single leg pull, Double leg pull and Spine stretch forward. All participants are at different fitness levels and their mat variations range from introductory through to intermediate and advanced.
In addition to these exercises, Darien includes two stretch sections of her own design, meant to prepare the body for The First Seven and help students move with greater ease from one exercise to the next.
The First Seven also serves as an excellent preparation for other types of physical activities such as weight training, mountain biking or even yoga. Arms and legs feel lighter, recovery time shorter and everyday activities become easier.

2 The Mat
For beginning and intermediate Pilates students, Darien Gold presents this two-disc set, which represents the heart of the Classical Mat repertoire. The Basic Pilates Mat and the Intermediate Pilates Mat routines are here together for the first time, so students can practice and continue to condition at home or when traveling.
In The First Seven, four of Darien’s clients demonstrate variations of these seven Basic Mat exercises – Hundred, Roll up, Leg circles, Rolling like a ball, Single leg pull, Double leg pull and Spine stretch forward. All participants are at different fitness levels so their mat variations provide distinct forms from introductory to the most challenging. Studio Darien Pilates was created and produced mainly for the Pilates student already practicing the Intermediate repertoire – at a classical studio by Darien Gold, a 2nd generation, classically certified Pilates teacher and student of Romana Kryzanowska.
The Full Intermediate Mat (non-stop mat workout with all of the transitions intended to maintain the flow)
The Intermediate Individual Mat (Twenty-three individual exercises that comprise the Full Mat and include the correct number of repetitions, cued both with audio and text)
And two separate and distinct series: Rowing 1 through 6 and Teaser 1 through 4 with variations – both are part of the Pilates repertoire.

Studio Darien Advanced Pilates is available for iPhone, iPod and iPad and it offers several new features in functionality; among them: bypass introduction, mute sound, play audio only and access the Studio Darien website by tapping on the Main Menu logo.
